Kodak has finally introduced it's much anticipated Kodak Playtouch Video Camera. It is an upgrade from previous models such as the Kodak Zi6 and the Kodak Zi8. I actually own both of these models and I'm awaiting delivery of the Kodak Playtouch. They are available very soon on Amazon and I have pre-ordered mine. I'm really excited about this new camera.

The new Playtouch will feature a 3" touchscreen with built-in image stabilization. Do you know how great your videos will look with this feature? They will look awesome. Most of us cannot be completely stable while shooting video and sometimes a tripod is not convenient. Another big feature is that the Playtouch will shoot 5 megapixel still shots. 5 megapixel will produce beautiful stills.

The features keep getting better. Kodak seems to really be on the edge of wonderful technology and they really listen to their customers. Everything they make is top notch quality and the new Kodak Playtouch will include a share button which will allow you to upload photos and videos directly to Facebook, YouTube and other social networking sites.

The Playtouch will come in black, chrome, cabana and spa blue colors. The package will feature an HDMI cable and a lithium-ion battery. The HDMI cable is a very cool feature because what you can do with this is immediately show videos on your TV right after you shoot it. If you have a current model of TV, chances are it has an HDMI input on the back of the TV. Shoot a video and then plug the Kodak Playtouch into the TV using the HDMI cable. Your TV will now playback the video you just shot. Imagine your child has a birthday party or a swim party and you are capturing all of these great moments. Before everyone leaves, you can play back the video on your TV without any editing or uploading at all. How cool is that? You get all of this and the Playtouch is about the size of a cell phone. Super-easy to carry around in your front pocket.

It is now so affordable that everyone should be capturing all those moments in vivid detail. The Kodak Playtouch records in full 1080p HD. Like I said earlier, I already own the Zi6 and also the Zi8. There are just a few "must have" accessories that you will need when you buy this camera. The first is a case for the camera. These are cheap and you must get one.

I feel the battery that comes with the Kodak Playtouch is very good. However, it's a good idea to carry a spare. It seems I sometimes forget to give mine a fresh charge and my spare battery saves me at times.

You must buy a high capacity digital card. High definition video has very large files. You will need a high capacity card to hold your videos. I suggest a minimum of 8GB, 16GB is better. It's doubtful that you will fill up a 16Gb card and I want you to be safe than sorry.

Capture fantastic audio. How many times have you watched what appeared to be a great video but the audio was so bad that you couldn't stand to watch it? I will tell you right now that these cameras have great audio capability on their own. The internal microphones are very sensitive and work great. The great thing about the Playtouch is that it comes with a built-in external microphone jack. You can use a wireless microphone with this video camera. This would be perfect for interview situations or anytime you need to get really great audio for your video. If you want to become a video blogger, this feature alone will help you to produce amazing videos with great audio.

Kodak has added some neat effects that you can add easily to the videos you shoot. The ability to shoot in black & white, sepia, high saturation and also an old look like it was shot in the 70's.

The mini HD cameras use SD cards to store your media. The Kodak Playtouch card slot will accommodate up to a 32GB SD card. Let me tell you this right now. A 32GB card will hold a few hours of video. I don't think you will ever run out of space.

The Kodak Playtouch is a 1080p video camera. 1080p identifies a camera as being able to shoot high definition video or HD video. When we speak of 1080p or HD, the aspect ratio of the viewing screen is 16:9 or anytime you hear wide screen, it means 16:6 screen resolution. A microphone is an accessory for the Kodak Playtouch and I would recommend it highly. Good audio is essential. Most people can tolerate video that is not very good but if you have bad audio, you can forget it. No one will watch.

I recommend the Audio Technica wireless microphone for the Kodak Playtouch. I use one of these mics and it works fantastic. I use it for close-up audio such as an interview.

I call my Kodak video cameras my "shirt pocket camcorders". The reason is simple, they are small enough to carry around in my shirt pocket. You will find me with a cell phone on my side and a video camera in my shirt pocket almost all the time. I never leave home without it.
