Confessions Of A Prairie Bitch By Alison Arngrim
65Many of you may remember the little girl that we all loved to hate on Little House On The Prairie, Nellie Oleson. Alison Arngrim played the little snotty nosed 12 year old that was a little beeotch. Admit it, if you watched the show, you hated her. I did. She was such a fantastic little actress and played the part so very well.
Alison Arngrim has now written a new book called "Confessions Of A Prairie Bitch" because she has learned to embrace being hated by millions in her life. She claims that being hated by so many, had a marvelous effect on her life. She was able to vent all of her hostilities and agnst while she was on the show acting. It actually calmed this little teenager down by the end of the day. Alison talks in the book about how difficult the business was for child actors. She was hired to be the cute little kid on the show. Problem is, kids start to grow up and basically become a prop on the show.
Little House On The Prairie
Little House on the Prairie went off the air in 1983. Alison Arngrim left the show in 1981 which was her seventh year. It was very strange for her because she had an intense perfect structure everyday for years. She knew what she would be doing every day. She felt comfortable that she had a job and she knew who she was. Her life had been a very structured environment. When she left, she experienced a huge empty space in a crucial turning point in her young life.
It was at this point where she realized that her life was not normal and it was a shock to her.
Alison Arngrim also talks in her book about her older brother who abused her. This is abuse that happens to millions of young girls and she explains that there is a lot of it in show business. People do not want to talk about it because of the TV shows and no one wants to rock the boat. Her mission now is to help get laws changed to protect young women.
Alison now also has a very funny one-woman comedy show that she tours the United States. She tells all of the outlandish stories from the set of the TV show.
It's ok to have hated Nellie Oleson from Little House on the Prairie, Alison now takes it as a compliment.
