Wax hair removal has been a popular way to remove hair for centuries. Mostly women use wax but some men use it to rid of unsightly back or chest hair. Many people think that hair removal must be done by a professional at a beauty salon but it can be performed just as well at home. There are many varieties of wax and several different methods of wax hair removal.

Wax can be made at home instead of being purchased in a store. The most cost-effective way to remove hair is to buy all of the ingredients separately and mix them together to form a substance sticky enough to get rid of your unwanted hair. Sugar is one of the most used ingredients in wax for hair removal.

The recipe for making a sugar wax is as follows: two cups of sugar should be added to one quarter cup of lemon juice, or lime and one quarter cup of water. If you would like to add wax two tablespoons of grated wax can be added at this point. Let the ingredients come to a slow boil, while constantly stirring. Heat the ingredients until they reach 250 degrees, the temperature can be checked by using a candy thermometer. While the mixture is coming to a boil olive oil or aloe vera can be added, as well as essential oils that can give a nice scent to the wax when it is finished. After removing the wax from the heat, pour it into a glass bowl and let it cool, but do not let it harden or you will need to heat it again. Place the wax on the area where you want to remove hair, but make sure that your hair is at least a quarter inch long in that spot. Apply the wax in the direction that your hair grows. You can either buy or make removal cloths from an old t-shirt. Put the strips onto the wax, press it down and swiftly but gently, pull in the opposite direction that the hair grows. Your remaining wax can be refrigerated.

There are many benefits to waxing and it is an efficient way to remove big sections of hair quickly. It takes between approximately two to eight weeks for hair to grow back after being waxed, because it is being pulled out by the root and not just shaved off like a traditional razor would do. Shaving and creams cause hair to return with a rough stubble within one to two days after using them, and after time waxing tends to have softer regrowth of hair. There are a few minor drawbacks to using wax, but nothing that is really serious. Wax still remains one of the most popular ways to remove hair.
